The Wall (Video) Album Review

By William Poulsen

I bought the DVD the day it came out and ripped open the packaging like a little kid on Christmas eve. I have never seen the original version in its entirety. Back in the day, before I was an extremely devoted Floydian, I walked in when my brother and friends were watching the nudy scene from the full version and thought it was a porno. I then got a copy on tape from when VH1 aired it but it had alot of the nudy scenes edited out and the violent head bashing scene during one of the animation sequences. The DVD version is pretty much the same as the version I have watched hundreds of times except with all the nudity, violent cartoons, the animated flowers making love, and a few scenes replaced such as When the tigers broke free clip. Also in the bonus section of the DVD is the video for Hey You which still is not included in the actual film along with alot of cool menus and hidden buttons that play particularly memorable sounds from the film. If you have a stand-alone DVD player you push number 9 on the remote then enter key and voila it plays the hidden sounds. The main menus of the DVD are very well done. Different clips of songs from various albums are played between menu selections such as Set the controls for the heart of the sun (one of my all time favorites). I still have not had time to listen to the commentary by Roger Waters but the documentary on the making of The Wall was very interesting. If you liked the original then you will definetely want to get the DVD version to bring back the good old memories but with better video and sound quality as well as the bonuses that come along with it. I dont think I blinked once through the entire thing - it was like watching it for the first time.

-Pink Floyd <--- yes I did legally change my name to Pink Floyd believe it or not. [I'll leave this one up to readers... - Ed.]
